ESWT (Extracorporeal Shock Wave Therapy) is a method used in the treatment of some sexual health problems in men. This method of treatment involves the delivery of focused shock waves to the penile tissue.
What is ESWT?
ESWT, aka Extracorporeal Shock Wave Therapy, is a medical procedure. This treatment method is applied to treat many different medical conditions using externally focused shock waves.
The basic working principle of ESWT is that focused shock waves are transmitted to the targeted area and create biological effects in the tissue to be treated. These shock waves are created by high pressure and are usually produced by electrohydraulic or electromagnetic methods. ESWT is usually performed under local anesthesia and is usually performed in several sessions.
ESWT has many medical uses. For example, in orthopedics, it is used in the treatment of musculoskeletal problems. It can be especially effective in the treatment of conditions such as chronic tendonitis, plantar fasciitis, bone spurs and calcification. It is also used in urology to treat certain conditions such as kidney stones.
Although the working principle of ESWT is not fully understood, some of its considered effects are: increasing blood circulation, reducing inflammation, reducing pain, promoting tissue healing and increasing collagen formation.
ESWT should be evaluated and approved by a physician before being used to treat any medical condition. The application process and results may vary depending on the specific condition to be treated.
What Does ESWT Do?
ESWT has many medical uses and can be effective in treating a variety of conditions. Here are some uses of ESWT:
Tendinitis: ESWT can be used to treat chronic tendinitis. For example, Achilles tendon can be effective in treating conditions such as elbow tendinitis (tennis elbow or golfer’s elbow).
Plantar Fasciitis: Plantar fasciitis located on the sole of the foot and causing heel pain can be treated with ESWT. Shockwaves can relieve pain by reducing inflammation and promoting tissue healing.
Bone Spurs: Bone spurs on the sole of the foot (heel spurs) can be treated with ESWT. Shock waves can relieve pain by breaking the calcification in the bone spur area and reducing inflammation.
Calcification: ESWT can be used to treat calcifications that occur in certain areas. For example, ESWT can be effective in the case of calcific tendonitis in the shoulder.
Kidney Stones: ESWT can be used to treat some kidney stones. Shock waves can break kidney stones into smaller pieces and thus make them easier to pass.
These are just some examples and ESWT can be used to treat many more conditions. However, the effectiveness and suitability of ESWT for the treatment of each individual condition should be evaluated by the physician.
ESWT treatment is generally a safe and non-invasive (non-surgical) method. However, each patient may be different and the effectiveness of treatment may vary on an individual basis. Therefore, it is important to consult a specialist and assess your suitability for ESWT treatment.
